A TOTAL BODY WORKOUT IN 20-MINUTES TOPS

20 minutes of focused effort is all it takes for an effective workout.

No matter who you are, you won’t always have the time – or desire – to spend hours in the gym. The good news is, you don’t have to. That’s right, you don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get in a good, effective workout.

Personally, I love going to the gym. It’s my ‘me time.’ As a stay-at-home mom, it’s also a good excuse to get out of the house. But, sometimes it just can’t happen.

If there’s even the slightest wrinkle in our day it can throw my schedule off and the small window I have to get to the gym closes fast.

But there’s nothing like the feeling after a great workout so…I have a contingency plan.

When I don’t have time – or energy – to go to the gym I like to incorporate short circuit workouts that will get my heart rate up to burn fat and maintain lean muscle.

If you need a short, effective workout you can do almost anywhere (the gym included) with minimal equipment check out my favorite 20-minute total body workout I love below. The workout may look easy on paper but once you get going you’ll QUICKLY see why 20 minutes is more than enough.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • A pair of Dumbbells. 5-15 pounds should do it.
  • A Kettlebell. This is optional. A single dumbbell works too.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Set your timer for 20 minutes.
  • Perform each exercise one after another. After you complete all five movements rest for 10-60 seconds. Or as long as you need to, to perform each movement with proper form. My rest periods increase throughout the workout.
  • Complete as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes then your DONE! Stretch. Get a drink of water and pat yourself on the back for pushing through!

THE WORKOUT:

  • DB Squat to overhead press x 20
  • Pushups x 20
  • Goblet squat x 20
  • Glute bridge x 20
  • Squat or Jumping jacks x 20
